The 10 best hotels in Nottingham

Discover the top hotels in Nottingham handpicked by local expert Ben Olsen.
Ben Olsen
December 6, 2023

Welcome to Nottingham, rich in history, art, and culture, and one of the most dynamic cities in the UK. Nottingham is linked to the legend of Robin Hood and today is a major sporting center, known as the “Home of English Sport”. But whether you're visiting for sports events or hunting for legends, you should not miss the staples: Nottingham Castle and the City of Caves. True to their city’s character, the best hotels in Nottingham offer a broad range of options. You can expect to find contemporary boutiques in up-and-coming districts, elegant stately homes with literary connections, and sophisticated city-center bolt holes for business travelers – all of which put you within easy reach of the city’s star attractions.

1.

Lace Market Hotel

Address:

29-31 High Pavement

Price:

266 ﷼-1658.51/night

With its location in the heart of Nottingham’s buzzy Lace Market district, this sophisticated boutique hotel is just a stone’s throw from the city’s artsy highlights. It’s set in a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse, with 51 rooms ranging from smart double rooms through to spacious top-floor studios with roll-top baths and beautiful views of the city skyline.
All are equally sleek, featuring elegant decor with colorful accents. On the ground floor, the hotel’s charismatic on-site pub provides a cozy corner for a pre-dinner drink – be sure to investigate the rotating guest ales from local producers such as Pheasantry Brewery.
Meanwhile, the adjacent restaurant offers upmarket all-day dining – expect cooked and continental breakfasts, a laid-back daytime selection of toasties and pizzas, and an accomplished evening menu of classic British cuisine. I’d also highly recommend the afternoon tea – with generous platters of finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries.

2.

Hart's Hotel

Address:

Standard Hill, Park Row

Price:

270 ﷼-1459.64/night

Well-known as one of the best boutique hotels in Nottingham, Hart’s sits up on the slopes of the 19th-century Park Estate, minutes from the city’s historic castle, boasting panoramic views across the skyline. Designed by architect Julian Marsh, the hotel’s clean-lined design sits within meticulously landscaped grounds, with my favourites of its 32 rooms those that feature direct access onto a private garden.
All rooms come with king-sized beds and elegant decor defined by a minimalist palette and simple yet stylish decor. With two AA Rosettes, the onsite restaurant, Hart’s Kitchen, has deservedly become a culinary destination in its own right.
Here, the dining experience is shaped by seasonal produce and a wine list that skews toward smaller producers, while a faultless breakfast buffet shines a light on star local suppliers – including Rutland’s Hambleton Bakery and Dickinson & Morris in Melton Mowbray. Equally memorable is the exquisite service, helping guests feel immediately at home.

3.

Heritage Mews Nottingham

Address:

2 High Pavement

Price:

409 ﷼-1463.39/night

Although relatively new to Nottingham’s hotel scene, Heritage Mews has quickly established itself as one of the most unique hotels in Nottingham. Launched in 2019, this converted former schoolhouse has plenty of character, thanks to the many period details left intact during its restoration.
Each of the 12 rooms has its own unique touches, ranging from vibrant blue hues of the Calverton Suite to the pared-back neutrals and traditional decor of the Chantilly Suite. A particular favorite of mine is the spacious Heathcote Suite, with its chic cream palette and French doors that open out onto a private terrace with city views.
Although Heritage Mews doesn’t offer its own on-site restaurant, the hotel’s location in Nottingham’s lively Lace Market also means there’s a wealth of restaurants, bars, and cafés on the doorstep.

4.

Colwick Hall Hotel

Address:

Colwick Park, Racecourse Road

Price:

255 ﷼-1399.61/night

When it comes to grandeur, few Nottingham hotels can compete with Colwick Hall, a Georgian mansion that was once the ancestral home of Lord Byron. Two miles from Nottingham city center, it’s one of the best hotels to stay in Nottingham for those seeking respite from the city.
The elegant exterior, which makes it a popular wedding destination, is matched by the impressive communal areas and 16 striking suites. Named after famous historical figures, from Mozart to Wordsworth, each comes with unique period features – think original fireplaces, exposed beams, or roll-top baths – and a traditional approach to interior decoration that reflects the building’s heritage.
Named after the mansion’s former owner, the hotel’s restaurant, Byron’s Brasserie, offers a sophisticated take on classic British cooking. While the menu tends to change with the seasons, their regular Sunday roasts are a firm favorite, served within a vast dining room that always leaves an impression.

5.

Park Plaza Nottingham

Address:

41 Maid Marian Way

Price:

285 ﷼-5313.23/night

With its central location, comfortable rooms and impeccable service, Park Plaza Nottingham is among the top-rated hotels in Nottingham for business travelers and weekend visitors looking for a sophisticated base in the city. Located in a modern block on Maid Marian Way, it is just a short walk from the station.
For me, their comfortable beds and significant desk space make this hotel a worthy home away from home. Located on the 11th floor, the fitness suite – which comes complete with a broad range of cardio machines – provides a panoramic backdrop to your workout, while on the ground floor, the Chino Latino bar and restaurant holds two AA Rosettes.
Here, pan-Asian flavors are paired with culinary techniques from Peru on a menu where sushi and sashimi sit alongside tacos, Thai curries, and pioneering plant-based set menus, while 24-hour room service is on hand to provide sustenance for night owls.

6.

Leonardo Hotel Nottingham

Address:

Station Street

Price:

188 ﷼-1519.68/night

One of the best hotels in Nottingham for its sheer convenience, the Leonardo Hotel’s central canalside location is just a few minutes from the station. This puts all of the city’s star attractions within easy reach and makes it my personal recommendation for urban explorers.
A modern, well-run hotel, its 264 comfortably appointed rooms come in neutral hues, with pops of color coming from contemporary artwork. The ground-floor restaurant serves an all-pleasing breakfast buffet of cooked and continental options as well as a seasonal menu for lunch and dinner, while the bar makes a great starting point for any night out.
I’d also recommend the superior package upgrade, which brings with it a free newspaper and coffee as well as a later check-out. Another top tip? Ask for a room on one of the higher floors for excellent views over the city’s skyline.

7.

Crowne Plaza Nottingham

Address:

17-31 Wollaton Street

Price:

349 ﷼-1579.71/night

One of Nottingham’s largest and most upmarket options, this sophisticated four-star hotel is just a short walk from Market Square, making it a great base for exploring the city’s vibrant array of bars, boutiques, and galleries. Its 210 rooms come in an elegant pared-back palette of neutral tones and warm wood, offering a calm contrast to the city outside.
Particularly popular with the business crowd, there are a host of meeting spaces, while it’s also one of the few hotels that comes with comprehensive wellness facilities. One of my favourite spas in the city, Urban Escape delivers a range of beauty treatments as well as a heated swimming pool and sauna.
Its two on-site restaurants include The Lace Maker – a must-visit in my opinion, which serves elevated takes on traditional cooked breakfasts throughout the week, and the Swatch Bar & Lounge – where standout dishes include gourmet fish and chips and locally sourced steaks.

8.

The Orchard Hotel & Restaurant

Address:

University Park 1

Price:

83 ﷼-1936.18/night

For those seeking a calmer city break, this impressive four-star hotel to the west of the city doesn’t disappoint. Set within 330 acres of landscaped parkland next to Nottingham University and Wollaton Park, it’s close enough to access the best of the city, while also offering leafy, tree-lined green spaces to explore at leisure.
The hotel’s sleek design extends from the contemporary exterior, planted roof, and bright lobby to its 202 smartly appointed rooms, which are defined by neutral decor and – in many cases – views over the surrounding parkland. There’s also a rooftop terrace, while overnight guests also gain access to the comprehensive fitness facilities at the university’s David Ross Sports Village, which includes a gym, swimming pool, and sauna.
Although slightly further from Nottingham’s bar and restaurant scene than other hotels, the on-site Bramley’s bar restaurant is worth a visit, especially for one of my favorite breakfast buffets.

9.

The Beeches Hotel & Leisure Club

Address:

69 Wilford Lane

Price:

263 ﷼-990.61/night

Set within a stylish Victorian conversion on the eastern edge of the city, this charismatic four-star is perfectly placed for visiting sports fans, with Nottingham’s world-class football and cricket venues just a short walk away. What makes it special in my heart is the sophisticated character that puts a modern spin on traditional English décor and the warm, welcoming rooms, that come simply but comfortably decorated.
Specializing in vibrant, seasonal cuisine that nods to modern European technique, the restaurant is worth booking in advance. As well as its daily á la carte menus, the kitchen team creates weekly specials, while Sunday roasts, prosecco brunches, and a roster of events provide plenty of reason to return.
Equally impressive are the fitness facilities, which – following a recent renovation – include a compact swimming pool as well as an infra-red sauna, hot tub, and a well-equipped gym featuring the cutting-edge kit by Technogym and Concept II.

10.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Nottingham - Gateway

Address:

Nuthall Road

Price:

345 ﷼-2998.08/night

With excellent facilities and a convenient location close to the M1, this consistently reliable hotel on Nottingham’s north-western extent is a worthy option for regular commuters and business travelers. Set within landscaped gardens encircled by a small moat, it feels a world away from the city bustle, yet frequent connections to central Nottingham mean it’s easy to access the city’s best bits.
Bold room design sees signature red tones offset by neutral fabrics, with the extra-spacious king deluxe rooms worth the extra investment. A vibrant clash of marble, natural wood and foliage, and views overlooking the moat make the hotel’s on-site Blossom’s restaurant a memorable spot for its choice of set menus and á la carte classics – including an excellent steak and chips.
Elsewhere, there’s a well-appointed fitness center and a wide range of meeting rooms, while the chocolate cookies on offer at arrival are also a welcome touch.
