I booked through Kayak and it showed Allianz which I guess was a middleman for Nelly or Ace rentals. There they informed that the insurance coverage I paid for thru Allianz does not apply in the D.R. and I had to buy it there. That I could call Allianz and ask for a refund. The $ 29 daily rate plus full coverage cost $117 plus what I paid through Allianz. Will not go through Kayak again unless I can get a refund.

Cons:

The reservation was for a midsize SUV. I was first offered a Suzuki Vitara. Smaller than what I reserved. They did switch me to the vehicle I requested.

Car was fine. They had a very limited selection and had to force upgrade me (which cost me more in gas).

Cons:

They did NOT accept the Allianz insurance I had purchased online via Kayak and insisted I purchase their insurance. This more than doubled the cost of the rental. Allianz did refund me, but Kayak should not offer this option if Hertz will not accept it.

Pros:

When we went to pick up the car, we were told that they didnt have any cars available. There were others cars on the lot at a much higher price. Very disappointed as we were on vacation and were left in limbo at the last second.

Cons:

That they would’ve notified us ahead of time of the availability of cars. At a minimum they should had let us rent a car of our choosing at the same or lower rate as our reservation.

The SUV I rented only had 1/8 tank of gas to start with. The white cloth seats were filthy. It looked like some mechanics had sat in there in their dirty work clothes. The rental and return process is rather lengthy, in spite of having a reservation and returning on time.

Extreme additional requirements not listed when reservation was made for example $1500 deposit and pushy about adding additional insurance. When we already had coverage because of our American Express. Car was in poor condition and had several damages to the body of the car that they were aware of but had not repaired . Front desk staff was also rude and took a very long time to process paperwork for a reservation that was made way in advancez

Cons:

You sell an insurance that Avis does not accept. I wasted $99 on Allianz insurance at the time of my booking and ended up having to pay almost triple for their insurance.

First off, I was disappointed that I was being charged about $25 more at the counter than what my agreement stated, then I noticed the car was a lot smaller then what I reserved, When I got in the car I noticed the cigarette lighter port wasn’t working to charge my phone. I was trying to get a replacement vehicle and was told there isn’t another one to give me at 1st. Since it was 5am I was tired and the going back and forth was overwhelming so I ultimately canceled the whole rental. After I left I was looking over my rental agreement and motive that I was going to get charged a lot more for the car insurance which was all supposed to be declined in the 1st place. So why was I being charged for car insurance after I told the person at the counter that I already purchased case insurance thru Kayak. I’ll NEVER return to Avis again. BUNCH OF CROOKS ..

1- The reservation wasn’t there. 2- They wanted to give me another type of vehicle with I didn’t pick at the time of reservation. 3- I bought the insurance that you offered on the website. When I got there they don’t work with that insurance and they were pushing for me to buy theirs. 4- The bill could go over $900.00 per 5 days. And outside the airport I got a 2015 CRV for $30.00 a day. One of the worst experience traveling. I don’t recommend it. Waiting for my refund.

The employee from The renta car, make copy of my business debit card and next day I have 2 unauthorized transaction from Amazon, this is my first time I handle my business card to someone. In addition the company forgot to send someone to the airport so I can drop-off the car. I lost my flight and lost money. Because the staff show up around 7:45 Pm my flight was at 8:16 am and the airline closed the gate. i could it make it since I had to wait for the driver to pick up the car.

Pros:

Some of the staff were helpful and apologetic about all the issues we encounter.

Cons:

The vehicle was not available at the time we landed. Had to get a cab to my hotel and come back the next day, we were a large family therefore very difficult to get to the hotel and back, especially as our plane arrived at midnight. The vehicle they gave us didn't have the proper license plate and the staff called me through my whole trip trying to have me come back for them to make do the paperwork. Also, they charge me bogus charges that were not included on my original reservation, on their words, those are country charges.
