We were disappointed in the extra charge for an early drop off. Also the shuttle to the pick-up took a long time coming. Also I was not pleased with the policy that they have for dealing with tolls. They have a surcharge on top of the toll charge. Unimpressed.

The staff without exception were super friendly and helpful, pickup was easy and efficient and drop-off was even better. The rates were also better than all the competitors for our 5 day trip. The car was a Mitsubishi ASX which is a nice size but just OK in terms of drivability, comfort and additional gadgets but it was clean and with plenty of fuel when we picked it up. We would choose Apex again.

Avis tried adding a $500 one-way drop off fee that was not in the original estimate. It took several attempts to get it resolved. Had to talk to several agents and phone calls to help center. Truly a bait and switch on Avis’s part with lots off “we’re not able to take the charge off” and “we can’t override the system” conversations.

Pros: Car was very comfortable & fuel efficient. Staff was very professional. Quick & easy return. Cons: Rates were a little high. We did not like that we were threatened with a $170AUD fee if the car was not cleaned upon its return. We had never heard that before with any other rental we've had.

Pros:

The class of vehicle i booked was not available, yet I was charged the full amount BEFORE being informed that the full size SUV was not available. When I wanted to compare other options and cost, I was told to wait (with a 1 year old baby, after a 14 he flight) and ignored for an hour. Staff was short, rude and not interested in providing information. When I offered to return the nexr day to collect the class of vehicle I booked, that was also declined. I eventually got a smaller car, that forced me to change my family holiday plans, required the use of a second vehicle for 5 days.

Cons:

I should've received the car I booked, or provided with alternatives. I use Thrifty aften (4 times a year, for about 3 months in total) but will reconsider my options in future

Nothing !!! They could not provide the car that I booked and paid for in advance. They stated that a Mercedez and a Toyota are the same categorie ( which they are NOT) So they cancelled my 2 reservations and I had to find a different alternative. Very in professional I travel to many countries and I will NEVER use them again. Now I have to get my money refunded let see how that goes.

Booked a “mystery compact car” and they tried to give me an 8x seater people mover. Then charged me an additional fee to actually get a compact car Wrong instructions on airport collection came through in the email vs on the phone as I had to call up 3x. Staff on the phone were abrupt and rude Staff at counter said it wasn’t their problem the car had been advertised as “compact” when it wasn’t Driver who collected us from airport couldn’t lift bags or help in any way Just wouldn’t recommend, scam. Spend more money, at a known hire company at the airport, much easier and you actually know what you’re getting.

Luxury SUV

Very easy pickup and drop-off. Shuttle bus service was great even if directions weren't especially clear. At the time of booking I selected the luxury SUV, Kia Sportage or equivalent. I got an MGZS which is significantly smaller, lacking in any kind of luxuries, I couldn't connect my phone and it had no sat nav. The car seriously struggled up hills and I had to drive up a lot of them. While this company claims to be at the Sydney International Airport, they are not actually at the airport, they're off site & have no rental desk, representative or courtesy phone at airport. While booking, this company's location is represented as "Sydney International Airport" with an address following it. It turns out if you search the address, that address is not at Sydney International Airport, despite claiming that it is. Instead, when you arrive and are told by all the other car rental places that they are off site and you have to call them, you have to use your own phone (an international call if you not from AUS) to request a shuttle be dispatched. After calling for a shuttle, the company sent ours to the wrong terminal even though we had provided our flight info when we booked the car rental. After waiting nearly 40 mins with an exhausted two year old & having to make a second international phone call to ask what was going on, the company blamed us for their mistake & insisted that we gave them the wrong terminal information (in reality they never asked what terminal we were at and assumed we were at the international terminal). They then insisted that I was supposed to call 24 hours ahead of time to schedule the shuttle (the instructions provided by them, in contrast, state nothing of the sort, only "For detailed pick-up instructions, please call [...] at least 24 hours before your pick-up time. Please go to: Priority Pickup Area / Rideshare Area. A shuttle will take you to the rental counter."). They disliked that I refused to accept responsibility for their mistake, that I pointed out that their instructions said nothing about being required to book a shuttle in advance while quoting what it actually said, and that in the process of disputing their accusations and complaining about the disaster that is their pickup process I swore on the phone. Their response was to threaten to not give us the car we had pre-paid for. The shuttle driver was appalled by how we had been treated and told us to ask to speak to a manager and report the behavior. At the off site location, the company representative insisted that he was the manager of the company and there was no one else in the company I could speak to in order to file a complaint and then claimed that I had broken a law, so he was within his right to not rent me the car I had already paid for. When I pressed them about what law I had broken, he then claimed it was actually an internal company policy that, as best he could describe to me, no one could ever actually know about or have been able to read ahead of time (& he couldn't produce it for me either). Finally another employee attempted to smooth things over by suggesting that it was a misunderstanding caused by poor communication by the third party booking service used (also not my problem and a reflection of their arrangement with these companies), and they finally gave us the car we had reserved and paid for. This was by far the least professional rental car company I've ever used and can not believe they treat their customers this way.

customer service person was in training so it took a lot longer, would have been better for a senior person to work with him to get it done faster. Manager was a bit blunt and rude, as a one-way fee was added at the counter and not when we made the reservation, which is why we chose dollar instead of another company. we probably would've went with another company closer if they would've just been up front with the fees. The manger just said "well you can take it or not take the car". a bit rude.

The confirmation email had NO details as to which car company I was to use or any contact means apart from downloading some unknown app which I would not feel included to trust. When I got to the airport and saw no details and no means to contact I set up a disputed charge with my cc company. Not sure how you are doing business with this 3rd party that set up the booking.

Shocking customer service. I was advised I could drop off at a different location. Went to drop of off and was advised I would be charged nearly a daily rate to drop off there. It was then to late to drop it to the original location and was therefor changed an extra day. The extra daily rate what’s then more than 30% of the original rate. It took over 1 hour to drop the car off. A complete waste of time and money. The staff at the sydney city need some serious training. Avoid at all cost.

Car smelled of cigarette. I was told that there was airport transfer to the car park, but there wasn't, so I had to pay 2x Uber of about $30 each out of my own pocket. I paid $800 bond deposit that should have been refunded within two weeks of car return, it is now over three weeks and I'm still waiting, with no help from QEEQ and no response from the car supplier.
